Welcome to the So Sparkling blog, where we dive into the world of cleanliness and hygiene. Today, we’re exploring the age old question "does bleach kill molds".
When faced with mold, many people instinctively reach for bleach. But is it really that simple? As much as we love a good cleaning shortcut, here at So Sparkling, we're all about tackling things the right way. So, let's bust some myths about bleach and mold.
So does bleach kill molds? The easy answer is yes, however, bleach can only kill mold on non-porous surfaces like countertops and bathtubs. It’s useful for wiping away surface mold. Now that we have that out of the way lets talk about it's limitations:
Mold thrives in damp environments. Using bleach without fixing the moisture problem is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg – it won't solve the underlying issue.
For small mold patches: This is actually just an alternative to thick bleach that produces a similar result. Try a vinegar solution (one part vinegar to three parts water). Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and can kill some mold spores. However, for larger areas or persistent mold, it's best to call in the professionals.
For extensive mold growth or unknown cause: Don't risk your health! Mold remediation professionals have the training and equipment to safely and effectively remove mold and address the moisture issue.
Here are some additional tips for preventing mold growth:
Increase ventilation: Open windows and use exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens.
Control humidity levels: Aim for a humidity level between 30% and 50%.
